From the mid-1970s and on, Terry’s passion for art has led her to countless courses and workshops in life drawing, graphic design, and illustration, exploring the three main foundations of art – shape, value, and color. Terry spent 20 years working in the corporate world followed by co-owning a commercial art business with her sister, operating throughout San Diego County, eventually transitioning into a fine art career as a professional artist in 2009. She has since earned numerous awards while exhibiting in more than 30 major museum shows along with several gallery group exhibitions. Terry’s contemporary style is a result of exploring the colors and essence of the West, viewed through the lens of more than 30 years of work in design and illustration.
As you view her work you may notice that she often paints women with a strong demeanor. Upon reflection, Terry believes that it’s likely as a result of her own experiences throughout her career. As women connected to the business world while managing families and home, it is necessary to be smart and resourceful. The women she portrays are generally “as compassionate, optimistic, and often are amusingly irreverent, as am I. These qualities are what I want to convey in my portraits and figurative works of women, no matter their status in life.”
