WILLIAM MARTIN

Big Horn Galleries is proud to represent the artwork of Internationally recognized artist William Martin.

Martin took up oil painting in Los Angeles at the age of twenty.  After studying architecture and winning several awards for architectural renderings, he began to paint seriously. Since he was fascinated with the old masters’ style, he took courses in oils at several private schools. His classic style is greatly influenced by painters such as Sir Lawrence Tadema, William Bougereau, Wiliam Merritt Chase, and the Pre-Raphaelites. Traces of the work of Dutch painters Rembrandt and William Kalf may also be seen in his paintings.  Through more than forty years experience, passionately portraying the beauty surrounding him, he has honed his abilities as a Master Painter. Although most recognized for his classical oil still life paintings, many employing Old Master techniques, he possesses the range and ability to paint in diverse styles.  His current body of work reflects his love of the Western genre.  "I like to paint in many styles depending on the subject matter and what I feel like saying bout it".

“As I work I am constantly developing and growing as an artist. My goal is eventually to find my way into history books as a great American artist. In creating my paintings I use only the finest materials, because my work must last for hundreds of years”.  Martin’s work has been shown in Aspen, Beverley Hills, Carmel, Palm Springs, and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and is found in private collections around the world.  When not painting, he enjoys playing blues harmonica and guitar.
